Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May, and it is the day Americans celebrate their military. Armed Forces Day is the proper day to honor all of the men and women currently serving, as well as those who have served and sacrificed to defend our freedom.

Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Chapter 1 and For Our Fallen Organization every Memorial Day weekend they honor the Louisiana Natives who gave their life in service to our country. We plant 11, 000 American Flags on the grounds of the Louisiana State Capitol. Each flags represents a fallen hero from the American Revolutionary War to present day. The public is invited to participate in the flag planting. Our flags are carried through the streets of Baton Rouge by the For Our Fallen organization as a tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters.

The observance originated in 1919 on the first anniversary of the 1918 armistice that ended World War I and was known as Armistice Day. Our mission is simple: **to serve those who have served but are still fighting**, ensuring veterans in recovery have a stronger chance at rebuilding their lives with dignity, stability, and support. This tournament brings together golfers, sponsors, and supporters for a meaningful day on the course. Participants enjoy team-based play, contests, and camaraderie, all while helping raise funds for programs that provide critical assistance to veterans facing physical, emotional, and recovery-related challenges. Every swing, sponsorship, and show of support helps create opportunities for veterans to heal, recover, and move forward. The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, in partnership with the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, will be hosting a Women Veterans Symposium: June 12, 2025 10 AM – 2 PM American Legion Post 38 151 S Wooddale Blvd Baton Rouge, LA Our theme this year is “Celebrating Women Veterans” so please join us for a day of empowerment, education, and networking specifically tailored for our women veterans. The symposium will feature insightful speakers, free food, music, and valuable community resource partners. The symposium will also feature FREE professional pictures and headshots. So, please feel free to bring your military souvenirs and keepsakes to take pictures with! If you need to update your professional headshots, we will have a photographer on site to facility that as well. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with our nation's heroes who have served our country and gain valuable insights into navigating life after the military.
